Corporate Going Green

Chipotle has just revealed a new prototype for their restaurants. They have found a way to make their restaurant kitchens smaller, more efficient and cheaper while still generated a sufficient amount of revenue. They are also using greener products and paper goods. In a large percentage of new locations they will be opening, they will use this new model.

I think this is a great idea and that we will begin to see more and more corporate restaurants following suite. Although it took three years for Chipotle to develop this new kitchen, it will end up saving them thousands of dollars when they open a new location. Plus it could end up saving them money in the long run. By that I mean we don't know what direction legislature could take in the distant future. Hypothetically, in ten years there could be a law stating that restaurants need to be operating under a certain carbon emission level. If that is the case, Chipotle is already making moves to improve the condition of our planet. I also think this will increase popularity and public opinion of the restaurant. Right now, everyone is in favor of going green. I think that once word gets around that Chipotle is taking these measures, people will be more likely to chose to dine there over another QSR.

  1. I completely agree with Rebecca, Chipotle will definitely be seen as more favorable in the public eye after the information about their new restaurant concepts goes public. Also, she makes a good point by saying that in the future restaurants could be required to maintain certain emissions levels, and Chipotle is already making steps in that direction. Also, Chipotle's customers will realize that by supporting companies that are going green, instead of companies that are not, they will be supporting overall planet health.

I would be much more apt to dine at Chipotle over another restaurant, not only because I love the food, but also because they are making actions towards a better cause. Also, this will be a better environment for the workers at Chipotle, since the kitchens will be better laid out, and easier to work in. This will create a better work place, and happier people. Also, Chipotle is creating thousands of jobs by opening new restaurants, and with all the money they are saving on construction costs, they will be able to afford all the added labor without questions.

  2. I also agree what is being said in the post and comments about chipotle new outlook. I find it extremely interesting how they can make their kitchen smaller and still make a good amount of revenue. I wouldn’t think that it is possible to cut back on size and still keep profits up. I mean it is something that I think all companies will be looking into in the future is a more environmentally friendly establishment. From greener products to paper goods every little bit helps. It nice to see that someone has found a way to make there establishments more efficient and that doing this will save them money. This on top of the food being pretty good makes it for a better place for me to want to go and eat.
